CSS Dialogue Sample 2

SCENE: TIMOTHY MITCHELL and ALICIA GREENE take a break from their study session at Tim's house and reveal a bit about themeselves.

INT. MITCHELL HOUSE - KITCHEN – NIGHT

A FROZEN PIZZA

On a cookie sheet is placed into the oven and a mittened hand closes the door.

TIMOTHY

Looks up at Alicia, who’s sitting atop the counter.

TIMOTHY
All-righty, then. We’re twenty minutes away from a scrumptious gourmet feast.

Alicia holds up the empty pizza box. She smiles.

ALICIA
When you said “gourmet”, I didn’t think you meant “E-Z Gourmet.”

The two laugh. Alicia comes down off the countertop, crosses to the garbage can and tosses away the empty box.

ALICIA
You know, for someone whose parents are away so much I expected you to be a better cook.

TIMOTHY
(Strangely hurt)
I am... when I feel like it.

ALICIA
Hey, I’m sorry. I’m sure your folks are probably the last people you want to talk about right now.

TIMOTHY
It’s all right. The guidance counselors tell me that the more I talk about it, the easier it becomes to deal with.

Alicia gives him a quizzical look.

TIMOTHY
Yeah. I don’t believe `em, either.
(Pause)
It’s been like this ever since I was a kid. They rush off because of some earth-shattering crisis. They promise me that when they come back they’ll tell me all about it but...

ALICIA
Let me guess: they never do.

TIMOTHY
Yeah.

ALICIA
Look at it this way, Tim. At least both of your folks are still around. Nowadays that’s a rarity. It’s one of the things I envy about you.

TIMOTHY
I’m sorry. I had no idea.

ALICIA
No biggie. I guess we’re just going to have to do better when we have our own kids.

TIMOTHY
I’m not sure that I want to.

ALICIA
Look. While the pizza’s still cooking, why don’t you show me more of this house of yours?

TIMOTHY
What do you want to see?

ALICIA
It’s your house. You tell me. What’s upstairs?
