Timetrotters Dialogue Sample 4

SCENE: With the aid of SHAMAN, a former soldier forced to live among a group of mutant NO-MEN, TIMOTHY MITCHELL has found ALICIA GREENE in an expansive ceremonial cavern, where she faces sacrifice at the hands of EVAN, her former boyfriend who has now become the No-Men Leader. Tim has devised an audacious scheme to rescue her.

TIMOTHY AND SHAMAN

Timothy reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out the Omichron. He opens the panel it and it begins to HUM with electronic life. Momentarily startled, he presses his hand against it to try and cover up the sudden sound. Fortunately, none of the No-Men seem to notice.

SHAMAN What are you doing? What is that?

TIMOTHY It’s what got us into this mess. With any luck, now it’ll get us out.

Timothy begins to tap in a series of commands on the Omichron.

TIMOTHY
(To Omichron) Come on, baby. Please get this right!

Timothy activates the Omichron and places it on the ground beside the flaming torch and skull. He crosses his fingers and silently counts backward.

THE OMICHRON

ITS POWER BUILDS UP and it FOCUSES ITS ENERGY ON THE TORCH, ENVELOPING IT IN LIGHT. Within milliseconds, the torch is gone. The Omichron powers down.

TIMOTHY

Scoops the Omichron up and places it back in his pocket.

SHAMAN I can’t believe my eyes! That was amazing!

TIMOTHY Don’t applaud just yet. We still have to see if it worked...

EVAN AND ALICIA

ALICIA There’s no way in hell I’m joining you! Especially not as your little geisha! If you’re to be the inheritors of the Earth, then rock on! I want no part of it.

She steps defiantly towards the bonfire.

ALICIA I’d rather burn like the rest of you should have!

Evan’s face falls.

ABOVE THE BONFIRE

A BRIGHT, WHIRLING LIGHT materializes. The No-Men gaze upon the LIGHT with awe.

EVAN Behold! Behold the sign!

Suddenly, the TORCH AND SKULL COMBINATION Tim had constructed APPEARS IN THE CENTER OF THE SWIRLING LIGHT. The combination of the LIGHT FROM THE VORTEX and FLAMES FROM THE TORCH give the object A DEMONIC, GHOSTLY QUALITY. The No-Men shriek in fear as the demon skull continues to hover above the chamber.

TIM AND SHAMAN

Watch with more fascination than fear. After a moment...

TIMOTHY Come on. We’ve got to get Alicia. It won’t stay up there forever.

Tim and Shaman rush into the chamber.

CEREMONIAL CHAMBER.

Great confusion as the No-Men scatter to hide from the “demon” that has appeared. Tim and Shaman fight their way through the crowd, who seem unconcerned by their presence. Finally, they come upon Alicia, sprawled out on the ground near the bonfire. She is conscious and trying to shield herself from the chaos going on around her. Tim and Shaman help her to her feet.

ALICIA Tim! ... What the hell took you so long?

TIMOTHY Nice to see you too, Alicia.

SHAMAN Look!

Shaman points to...

THE TORCH “DEMON”.

The SWIRLING LIGHT surrounding it has all but faded out.

TIM, ALICIA, AND SHAMAN

TIMOTHY Come on! We’d better get out of here!

SHAMAN This way!

Shaman leads Tim and Alicia through a connecting tunnel.
